Signcode at NHS UK E-Health Event

Gill & Jeff attended the NHS UK E-Health event at London Olympia where they were able to meet representatives of NHS Digital and other innovators. There was lots of interest in Signcode and how we could help provide access for Deaf people.

Although English, foreign languages and braille have been adopted for information there is still very little for Deaf BSL users. This was our chance to show how independent access could be gained.

Evergreen allows a patient access to health information and their own records. It can help GP’s target people with specific health needs. We spoke to Rebekah Pyatt who didn’t realise that written information was not always accessible for BSL users. Let’s hope they take up the challenge and offer Signcodes!

Pharmaceutical companies must always include instructions for usage and side-effects with their product. They were understandably proud that instructions and information were offered in English, foreign languages and even braille. She was amazed that English information was not adequate for a BSL user. We are staying in contact and hope that companies will adopt signcodes for independent access to information on the medicines Deaf people are taking.

We will be attending plenty more events around the UK this year so follow us on Twitter for event dates and news.
